Lies (And the Lying Liars Who Believe Them)

is there any connection that can be made between the two todays recommendations?  in the first one, politifact released the results of this years 'lie of the year' readers poll.  the top 4 lies happen to be from republicans.  and they are whoppers.  the second recommendation is one of the many stories you can find on the google relating to a university study which showed that fox news viewers are more misinformed than people who get their news from, well, real news sources.

president barack obusha

it turns out presidents george w bush and barack obama have a lot more in common than I would have ever thought.  there are the afganistan policies, government eavesdropping on it's own citizens policies, now identical tax policies, and certainly many more.  they also share the same huge failure, the failure to capitalize on support.  on september 11, 2001 president bush had the support of just about the entire world.  he could have done almost anything and every advanced country on the planet would have been behind him.   of course he blew that by doing something most intelligent people could not get behind, invading iraq.  on january 20, 2009 president obama had the support of over two thirds of the american public.  he blew that by poor communication and losing sight of the fact that it is always the economy, stupid.

ebony and ivory live together in perfect stupidity.

dell, dude

i have two nearly 10 year old computers, so it was time to update and upgrade.  both are dells, and with the exception of the cd drives, both were problem free.  i decided to get another dell.  while poking around their website i noticed a tab for the 'dell outlet'.  i am all about saving money.  because it is a real outlet, the inventory constantly changes.  my advice, get an idea of what you want then track the inventory for a few days.  you will see a range of prices for different models and you can decide how much computer you actually need and how much money you want to spend.  i saved $200 off the price of a new computer by buying it from the outlet.  it comes with the same dell warranty.  the one i got was refurbished, but there are scratch and dent ones that are even cheaper.  dude.

barnes and (not really) noble

every year barnes and noble has a holiday book drive to get books to children in need.  sounds like a nice idea, and they will lead you to believe the point is to get books to those children.  they do accomplish that, but what they fail to mention is the huge profit they are making from their book drive.  you see, you have to buy the books from b&n, at full price, in order to donate the books to their book drive.  you cannot bring in books you bought somewhere else (cheaper of course) or even like-new books that you have sitting around your house.  they dont have any interest in that.  their only interest is getting a customer to buy more books.  quite honestly they wouldnt give two shits if you donated the book to their book drive or threw it in the trash on the way out to your car, as long as you bought that extra book or two from them.  they treat the holiday book drive the same way they treat that membership they have, just another thing to pester the customer about to try to make more money.

fuck the police

this year five police officers have been killed while on duty in chicago.  last week a law enforcement officer was shot and killed near orlando while making a traffic stop.   the officer in florida had survived two tours of duty in iraq, only to be killed while pulling over a car a few miles from disney world.  there are parts of this country, many parts, that are far more dangerous than iraq or afganistan.  most of us are smart enough to, and lucky enough to be able to, stay out of these dangerous areas.  but the people who protect us do not have that option.  they have to deal with these domestic terrorists every day.  and thats what they are, terrorists.  the news calls them "career criminals" or says "their rap sheet is a mile long" or "theyve been in and out of prison their whole lives".  what the fuck, why are these "people" allowed to live among us?  and why do we continue to subject the the brave men and women who keep us safe to this terrorism?

living with the stupids week - saturday

i think it is only fitting to end the week where it began.  sarah palins followers believe she is so down to earth, so just like them, that next week she just might pop over their house for dinner.  maybe stopping by with some fresh baked cookies for dessert.  her admirers look at her the same way most 12 year old girls look at robert pattinson.  adults at least should be able to accept reality.  real reality, not the reality that is on tv.  sarah palin is not going to be your bff any more than your 12 year old daughter is going to be the future mrs pattinson.

this picture says it all.  we are at the point in this country where our leaders are measured by flag pins, cutesy catch phrases and if they are just like us.  the only way to get more is to get involved and demand more.  educate yourself, dont be a stupid.

living with the stupids week - friday

the biggest mistake, let me repeat that, the biggest mistake the obama administration has made so far has been the failure to recognize the stupids.  the republicans never make that mistake.  they use the stupids every election.  they get people to vote against their own best interests just so "them homos cant get married".  the republicans have learned how to play the stupids like a fine violin while president obama and the democrats have yet to acknowledge the stupids existence.  the republicans convinced the stupids that cutting the taxes of the richest 2% of the country is good for us all.  it isnt.  for many reasons.  it is also sheer mastery to get people to think that health care is evil.  health care.  evil.  wow.  george w bush currently has a 47% positive job approval rating.  w bush, you know, the katrina, unnecessary war, ruin the economy guy.  less than two years out of office 47% of the people polled think he did a good job.  compare that to 45% of the public thinking the current guy is doing a good job.  you know, the black guy who had to mop up the white guys mess.

living with the stupids week - tuesday

its too easy to pick on the tp.  ive commented before that the tp is just a bunch of old people standing on a street corner, the pic below clearly shows i am right.  there are also people who call themselves tp'ers but are really just confused far right wing republicans.  one of their rallying cries is not to pass the huge national debt to their grandchildren.  this is funny on one level because so much of the tp is made up of people old enough to have grandchildren.  the not haha funny part though is they tend to ignore other real issues that will impact their grandchildren.  at about the 7 minute mark of the todays recommendation video there is a "global warming is bullshit" chant.  i cant understand the connection between not wanting to pass the debt to future generations and also not wanting them to have breathable air and drinkable water.  unless them not wanting to pass the debt to their grandchildren is also bullshit.  which it is.  a smart, logical person would quickly realize you cannot both reduce the debt and cut taxes.  its impossible.  the tp republicans fighting to keep taxes low for the richest people in this country clearly shows their concern for the debt is as phony as their insistence that they are not racists.

living with the stupids week - monday

the biggest problem with the stupids is that too many of them vote.  we've just gone through our third straight "change" election.  think about that for a minute.  the stupids would cause no harm if they just stayed home on election day, or went to walmart instead.  or even better one of those super walmarts with a mcdonalds inside.  half of the stupids are probably actually stupid.  the other half think they are informed, but since their only source of information is fox news or scary, hate filled, right wing am radio they are way more dangerous than the other half.  not knowing something is bad, thinking a lie is the truth is even worse.

of the 13 questions asked of the public in the graph below, the 2 that concern me the most are new house leader and TARP loans repaid.  these were such important aspects of this past election, yet only 38% and 16% were answered correctly by the people asked.  i am sure much more than 38% of the public know who the current speaker is.  she is that commie-liberal who wants the children of this country to be personal slaves of chinese families.  as for TARP, the other 84% of the american public must think that president obama has given all that money to kenyan hookers for blow, and to general motors to build a 2012 chevette.

living with the stupids week - sunday

its becoming increasing clear the biggest threat to our country is not coming from the radical right or the looney left.  and its certainly not coming from al qeada.  its coming from the stupids.  i will give in that maybe sarah palin is a good friend to some and a, a, well she is a mother.  but you have to be even dumber than her to think she should lead this country.  she is probably the only politician that would make w. bush look good.  for that reason alone he should really get behind her for president.  if she won, come january 21, 2013 he instantly would look more like george washington than george w. bush.  and as much as you would really like to have a beer with, or shoot some animal with, both of them, thats is not really a good reason to vote for them for high office.  'just like us' is not a qualification for president.  we should not use the same criteria to pick the leaders of this country that we use to pick the winner of 'dancing with the stars'.  and thats the problem isnt it.  sarah palin is queen of the stupids, and there may be just enough of them to lead her to victory.

words, words, words

liberal:  favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

progressive:  moving forward; advancing, promoting or favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas, or methods.

among the millions of other things the democrats have to do to win again, theyve got to stop letting the republicans define the language.  if you read the above definitions to the american public, im sure a large majority would identify themselves with those principles.  if you ask the american public if they are liberal or progressive you will get a resounding "hell no".  and thats the democrats own damned fault.

janies got a gun

and everyone else should have one too.  ideally of course no one would have a gun, but we live in reality and not the united states of idealica.  the pandoras box has been opened and the guns are out there.  the only way to fight fire is with fire.  the criminals who use guns do so because they are cowards.  they are sure the people they are commiting crimes against dont have a gun and that they will get what they want.  picture a bank robbery.  criminal goes in to rob the bank, pulls gun, gets money, leaves.  maybe he shoots someone, maybe he doesnt.  now picture that scenario if all the tellers, managers, customers, and people walking by and driving by all had guns.  do you think that criminal would rob that bank?  of course not.  he would be shot 20 times at least.  its the same philosophy behind nuclear weapons that has kept us safe from those for decades.

Right Wing Lying Echo Chamber

from fox "news":

A school in Florida has not only banned Christmas - but everything associated with the Christian holiday.  Teachers at Heathrow Elementary School have been ordered to banish images of Santa Claus from classrooms - along with traditional Christmas colors like red and green.  "You can't use red and green," one outraged parent told WESH. "It's ridiculous."  The parent, who serves as a volunteer room mother, said she was recently given a list of guidelines that listed the holiday restrictions.  She said the basic theme of the letter was, "We don't want to offend anyone who doesn't believe in Santa Claus or the Christian beliefs."

thats pretty shitty right?  well it would be if it were true.  but its not.  of course its not.  all fox had to do was to contact the school in question to find out its not true.  but they didnt bother, they just ran the story.  so now millions of people who saw it on fox or heard it on scary right wing am radio think its true.  and because those millions of people think its true, it now is.  even though it isnt.

STOP

its been clear since early 2009 that the republicans want president obama to fail.  highly publicized quotes by rush limbaugh, jim demint and mitch mcconnell have confirmed this.  of course if the president fails the country suffers.  and thats the problem.  the latest example is the refusal of  the republicans to ratify the current START treaty, something president reagan first proposed.  its one thing for the republicans to put themselves above the democrats.  its something all together different for the republicans to put themselves above the country.  i have this vague recollection of a republican running for president recently with the motto of 'country first'.  does anyone else remember that?

private parts

there are some things the government should take care of i think.  one of those, and there is probably universal agreement on this, is to protect us from a foreign enemy.  all the shit people have to put up with at the airport is to protect us from a foreign enemy.  therefore the government, the tsa, should take care of that.  unless you think money is more important.  the republicans (mostly) now want private companies to take care of airport security.  i will try not to be too cynical, but the only possible reason for this is so their friends and contributors can make money.  im sure you heard there are 'contractors' in iraq and afganistan.  those 'contractors' are just hired guns working for private companies making money from the wars.   there is no reason for private companies to be in the business of protecting us.  there should not be profit in protecting us from a foreign enemy.

thats right hyundai like sunday

my almost ten year old suv gets 20 mpg around town, 25 mpg highway if i stay around 65 miles per hour.  and thats way more than what it is rated for.  you just have to drive smart to get better than sticker mpg.  and its actually pretty damn good for a suv its size with its power.  it would be nice if i could find something that would double those numbers.  one of the best options out right now is the hyundai sonata.  i rented one for a week a few months ago.  when i drove all highway at 65 miles per hour i was getting 42 mpg, which is 7 higher than it is rated for.  for the week in mixed driving i got about 35 mpg which is incredible for a car its size.  the sonata is almost as big as my suv.  it is also very nice inside, drives and rides comfortably, and is all around a nearly perfect car.  a stronger engined turbo version is now out, which gets a little less mpg.  and a hybrid version is coming out soon which will get a little better mpg than the regular version.  a base model sonata can be had for around $18,000, which is an absolute steal for this car.  i just wish it was a little bit smaller.

"

i would like to know how those two million people voted is this past election.  did they vote for democrats?  or did they vote republican?  or worse yet, did they not bother to vote?  they are unemployed after all, they had plenty of time to vote.  unfortunately we will never know.  one thing i do know though, elections have consequences.

the reason i dont shop at walmart is not that they drive mom and pop stores out of business.  the reason i dont shop at walmart is not the fact they treat their employees like shit.  the reason i dont shop at walmart is not that their stores are a giant dump.  the reason i dont shop at walmart is because of the people that do.

"Toddlers abandoned at Walmart must remain in protective custody, judge says:
Police were called to the Walmart store on Kirkman Road in Orlando about 4:38 p.m. Tuesday.  Investigators said two women in the store with four children — two infants and two toddlers — were shoplifting children's items when store security noticed their activities and approached them.  Police said the women grabbed the two infants and fled the store, leaving two toddlers behind in a shopping cart."

the solutions are simple

its been two weeks, so wheres the change?  a lot noise was made by
democrats this past election about foreign money making its way into the
election.  other extremely wealthy candidates bought their victories with
their own money.   does it really matter where the money came from?
campaign finance reform is something the politicians talk about to
get us to think they want to change the system.  they dont.  im sure you
know where most of that money ends up, tv ads.  the solution to this
problem, and honestly most of the problems this country faces, is extremely
simple.  all the money from foreign donations, obscenely wealthy candidates,
special interests, etc, etc, etc can be spent in waste if the american
voting public could just do one thing....stop voting based on tv ads.  it
really is a simple concept.  it doesnt cost anything.  it doesnt require
much effort.  all it requires is a little thought.  if you are interested
enough in voting dont you think you should at least put a little thought
into it?  i dont want to rock your world, but not everything you see on tv is true.  for example, in real life neil patrick harris is not really chasing after the ladies.  im sure at this point your thinking, if i shouldnt pick a candidate by watching a tv ad  how can i decide who to vote for?  judge them by what they have done, not by what they say they will do.  for example, if a candidate has already held an elected
office there will be a record of their votes.  votes on issues you probably
care about.  or maybe that candidate was elected for a pretty important
office.  but she decided halfway through her term that she could make a lot more
money, and have a lot more fun, by quitting the position she was elected for.  i
wouldnt vote for that person again because she is a quitter.  or maybe the
candidate was in the business field.  and maybe the company he was in charge
of was fined for stealing mountains of money from the government.  well golly, it seems silly to vote for someone for a government position whose company stole from the government.  its like putting a pedophile in charge of an elementary school.

general confusion

some things i just dont understand, like gay republicans.  really?  gay
people need to understand that the republican party of today does not want
gay people to exist.  its like a little pig joining the big bad wolf party.
its fine if you dont want to be a democrat, i dont either.  but that doesnt
mean you have to be a republican.  dont support something that doesnt want
you to exist.  in this past election 31% of gay voters voted republican.  wow.

which brings me to this.  a week before election day i went to a chevrolet
dealership, chevy is a division of general motors for you non-car people.  i didnt even make it through the door though.  why?  this particular dealership in central florida, a gm dealership, gm a company saved from bankruptcy for the most part by president obama, this dealership had a poster on its front door promoting a tea party event.  a bit distasteful too as you can see.   i did point out to them that had the tea party been in power their dealership would currently be out of business.  dont support something that doesnt want you to exist.

tp'ers, palin, pedophilia

what do these three things have in common?  a few things probably, but i am just going to focus on one.  if you ignore it, then it will go away.  just because a few old, white people with nothing else to do stand on a street corner holding signs showing president obama with a hitler mustache doesnt mean we have to pay attention to them.  just because some middle aged white woman, who actually is dumber than one of my dogs, knows how to use twitter doesnt mean you have to treat what she posts like it is important.  just because some sick fuck gets amazon to sell his book doesnt mean you have to report it.

the media has responsibilities.  part of that is to know when not to report something.  if no one mentioned the pedophilia book the whole thing would have just stayed way under the radar where it belongs.  instead (as of this posting) on google news there are 1454 news articles.  and the book has actually been purchased in far greater numbers then if the whole thing was just ignored.  kinda the reverse effect of what everyone probably wanted.

and to amazon, just because someone writes a book doesnt mean you have to sell it.  if you dont sell it, its not censorship, its just a choice you made.  you dont sell everything (yet) so the items you choose not to sell arent being censored.  dont think you are more important than you are.

fuck the troops

isnt that really our attitude towards the military in this country?  from the insanity of over 4000 deaths and tens of thousands of mental and physical injuries in iraq to the neverending mistake in afganistan.  it makes me sick when people who have never been in the military willingly send other peoples sons and daughters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers off to die.  sick.  if staying in afganistan is so important than we all have to go, all 300 million of us.  otherwise the soldiers come home now.  today.  listen, i am no peacenik.  bomb the fuck out of afganistan, i dont care.  in this day and age it is absolutely barbaric to fight these foolish ground wars against the enemy we now face.

and when, if, soldiers do come home they deserve all we can give.  why are there homeless veterans?  well there arent any if you listen to bill oreilly, but i dont believe anything i see on fox.  how about unemployed veterans?  i have lots of crazy ideas, heres one.  every veteran is guaranteed employment.  our countrys infrastructure is falling apart.  lets employ every veteran who needs a job to help put it back together.  do you think any politician, even a tp repub, could vote against a job bill for veterans?

sharia lawis and lambchop

november 2012 will be here before you know it.  if the past is any
indication of the future all of us in battle ground states can look forward
to having ballot initiatives in 2012 to find out if we are for or
against sharia law.  unless youve been following sharron angle, listening to
crazy right wing am radio or watching fox news im sure you have no idea what
sharia law is.  and you shouldnt know what it is because it does not have
and never will have any impact on your life.  oklahoma decided to put it on
their ballot this year.  im sure thats just a test run for the rest of us.   they might as well ban vulcan law, martian law and jude law while they are at it.
its the new flag burning fake outrage.  when was the last time you saw
someone burning a flag?  and quite frankly, so what if they did.   stand up and stop being puppets about things that absolutely dont matter.  and try to pull the republicans fists out of your ass.

truthibillshittyness

billshit started a week ago today.  mostly because i thought billshit is a funny word.  billshit refers to my wacky opinions, and some time in the future i will be giving billshit awards to the most outrageous things i see happening (calling billshit on that, like shenanigans).  i spew whole lots of truthiness here, mostly because i am too lazy to do actual research for facts.  i think most of my truthiness turns out to be factual though.

the point i want to make with billshit is this, dont believe.  in a nation where 90% of the public is religious thats a tough thing to do.  its easy to make people believe things, its much tougher to get them to know the facts.  when someone tells you something, or you read something, or see it on tv or the internet dont immediately assume the information to be true.  when i was a young radical "question authority" was a popular mantra to me.  now it is "question everything".  its sad i guess that it has to be that way, but thats the way things are now.  if you see on the news that president obama is on a $2 billion trip with 34 navy ships, question it.  if you are told there are death panels in the new health care law, question it.  if a politician refuses to talk to the regular media or answer any question with specifics, question it.  question everything.  that is the whole point of billshit, question everything.  think.

No You Can't (Featuring John Boehner)

i started the week (and billshit) pointing out that if republicans won on tuesday that less would get done in the next two years than got done in the last two years.  im ending the week with the proof of that.  i remember this past march when i first watched 'todays recommendation'.  i said to a friend that here is the only commercial the democrats need to run to win in november.  obviously they didnt.  every commercial i did see featured nancy pelosi in some sort of unflattering way.  this video is the perfect summation of the republican response to every bit of progress the democrats wanted to make.  in 2008 the people spoke and the dems held the house, senate and presidency.  but the republicans thought they were still in charge.  they ignored the wishes of the people and did their best to ensure no real change occurred.  well now john of orange has power again, lets see what happens.

its the economy, stupids

the economy has been excelling all year.  im no economist, but i do watch cnbc a lot.  since president obama took power the stock market has nearly doubled from its bush low.  the hemorrhaging of jobs has stopped long ago.  the gdp and other economic indicators are all heading in the right direction.  none of this is new news, it has been happening over the course of the past year and a half.  again, im no economist, but it was either president obamas programs that turned the economy around or it is just a giant coincidence.  either way he gets the credit from me, but obviously not from all the people who voted tuesday.  surveys show the economy was the most important issue in tuesdays election, but the people who voted chose not to vote for the party that helped turn the economy around.  wtf?  mark my words on this, today nov 6 2010, if the economy keeps getting better (and there is no obvious reason right now that it wont) the republicans will take credit for the economic turnaround.  they will say the economy turned around once they won the house.  and people will believe them.  the stupids tend to believe anything the republicans say.  like how right now the president is on a $200,000,000.00 a day trip.  think about that for a minute, thats a lot of tandoori chicken.

and while im thinking about the economy i have a question.  can anyone explain this to me,  if the bush tax cuts for rich people are so crucial to fixing the economy then why did the economy collapse while the tax cuts were in place?  just asking.

toilet paper

now that the election is over the lamestream media has to do one important thing, stop pretending the tee pahty (tp) is something other than a small, noisy group of far right wing republicans.  there would be a democratic version of the tp if dennis kucinich had more friends, and they happened to be ignorant of issues, loud, obnoxious and a general pain in the ass to be around.  the republican party was in a 'stick a fork in it' condition in 2008.  they had to re-brand.  just like when philip morris was thought of as a brand that pushed a disgusting product that about 1 in 5 people wanted.  the republicans had about the same numbers.   then philip morris changed their name to altria.  altria, ya i will take what they sell, it sounds like a flower.  so the republicans are now the tp.  you know what tp is best used for, right?

pro life???

election day.  i am not voting anymore, for a few reasons.  one of which is 2008 was the first time in my 24 years of voting for president that my guy won.  so i decided to quit while i was ahead.  i am no more democrat than republican.  i want more legal guns and drugs.  im fine with 'killing babies' and killing criminals.  build the danged fence, make english the official language, but let the illegals that are here stay.  if i were to vote again though i would never vote republican for one reason.  science.  the majority of the republican party anymore doesnt believe in science.  the last president set progress back eight years by stopping the use of stem cells for medical research.  until a stem cell comes to my door to sell me girl scout cookies i dont consider it a person.  what i do consider to be people are all the ones suffering, and dying, from diseases that could and should be cured by now.   heck, even the poster boy of republican presidents suffered from a horrible disease that should have a cure.  but thats not enough for them to change their minds.  whats more important to you right-wingers, passing a deficit to your kids or passing to them what should be by now a treatable disease?  maybe if there had been democratic presidents for 20 of the last 30 years instead of republican (pro life???) ones some of these diseases would have cures.  and then maybe people you know and love would still be alive.

welcome to billshit

since election day 2010 is tomorrow let me speak on that for a second.  this is directed to all you independents, republicans who voted for president obama, and democrats who are thinking about voting republican.  what the fuck is wrong with you?  why are you even thinking about voting republican tomorrow?  do you realize how little will be accomplished in the next two years?  the leading republican in the senate just said "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for president obama to be a one-term president."  couple that with their blocking of any real progress in the last two years and their intentions are clear.  the republicans do not want to fix this country, they are just focused on elections.  the 2012 elections start wednesday.  is anyone else bothered by that?  i am no more democrat than republican, but i am someone who wants shit done.  heck, even two unnecessary wars, flooding of a major american city, skyrocketing debt and financial collapse were accomplishments of a sort.  i rather have that than nothing at all, or crap like a half ass health care law.

all or nothing people, c'mon.
